Went for dinner and no one was in there eating which made me nervous. So glad that we decided to stay! The customer service was great! Our waitress explained the menu and tailored each dish to our taste! The food was delicious and it was very fresh.

The Mongolian beef and egg drop soup wasn't bad. Being an out of towner from San Diego I'd say it was good and filling but I've had much better in San Diego.

They offer a buffet that is more that adequate for the typical patron and his family. Maybe a few of his neighbor if no one wants to barbeque. There isn't any parking except for what the downtown area provides, but access is at street level and from the Skyway.

I liked that they made the General Tso's with the dark red peppers! The buffet is a pricey way to go for lunch, but the food was good.

I am reviewing the lunch buffet. Below average Americanized Chinese buffet. Pretty small selection but there is probably enough variety for most people. Looking at the other reviews it doesn't sound like the buffet menu ever changes. If you are craving this kind of food/place it isn't like there are other options in downtown St. Paul. Another note: the bathrooms are disgustingly dirty and they don't have any hot water to wash your hands.

Good experience! We stopped for the lunch buffet and I was pleasantly surprised. Normally I am not a huge fan of buffets but I enjoyed this one; it was clean and the food was actually hot. They didn't have a ton of different option for lunch, but what was out was hot and tasted great. I appreciate a restaurant that knows their patrons and can cater their dishes and menu to match.

I've only eaten at this restaurant for lunch. The lunch buffet is unremarkable, with mediocre dishes with overcooked veggies. Probably your best option for Chinese in DT St. Paul, but only due to lack of competition.

Pretty good Chinese restaurant downtown St. Paul. We had a coupon for a free entree so tried it out. Portions are pretty large, we had leftovers for the next day. Quality was good. The atmosphere is ok and location is in a shady part of town but St. Paul isn't that dangerous. Not a bad place to stop for standard Chinese food.

This place stays in business because they are one of the only two buffets in downtown and the only Chinese buffet. Small selection of very mediocre Chinese food. The wings are decent and the dumplings tasty, but nothing ever tastes that good here. They have sweet and sour chicken and orange chicken. The orange chicken also tastes a little old. The cream cheese puffs are ok. If downtown and you have a hankering for a large amount of American Chinese food on the cheap (about $9), then this is your place.

I am reviewing the lunch buffet. I would say it is average to below average. I eat here on occasion when I'm in the area, but I never go out of my way to eat here. This afternoon the Orange Chicken was pretty bad. I don't know what kind of chicken meat they are using, but it was dry, tough and stringy. The chicken in the Chicken and Mushroom was much better. Also comparatively better were the Pork and Green Beans and the Beef and Broccoli. So the buffet is hit or miss. All in all I might choose to go to Leeann Chin upstairs instead in the future.

I went for the lunch buffet. It was $7 and I feel like I got my money's worth. It's a farely small buffett table but it does have several different types of chicken and pork and there were a few vegetarian dishes on there. The hot and sour soup was room temperature and tasted slightly like marinara sauce (this was not only my opinion even though we were amazed to agree that was the flavor). The dumplings, fried rice, chow mein, mandarin chicken, general tsoas chicken, and the rest was all pretty decent. Nothing to write home about but a decent lunch chinese buffet for a fair price. Nice and quick if you have a time limit too.

I was hoping this place would be a lot better than it was. I thought perhaps that it might be more like the Nankin that used to be in downtown Minneapolis all those years ago. Nope. We walked in for dinner and it was fairly dead. Waited around for someone to finally come and seat us. We sat by a window. I couldn't help noticing that there was a ton of dust on the window sills and that the decorations could use a good round with some Pledge. Food was meh. Bland and boring. Not a ton of flavor in the fried rice, sesame chicken or egg rolls. Service was ok. I like that there is a Chinese sit down restaurant in downtown. Maybe we'll swing back sometime, but in time.

I had the pleasure of experiencing Hunan Garden last week with friends after a wine tasting at the Ordway....in other words, we were tipsy and hungry for wontons. Enter St. Paul's closest equivalent to Red Dragon. We were greeted by a sign warning us to keep our pants off the ground. Warning, heeded. Sitting at a cozy (cramped) booth by the bar, the five of us shared a flaming volcano delight. We concluded that the only distinguishable taste in this concoction was that of pineapple juice. What better to wash down a vaguely tropical drink than with cream cheese wontons that have been fried for about 10 minutes longer than necessary? I can't say I will add Hunan Garden to my list of favorite restaurants, but if I'm ever in the mood for seedy surroundings and cheap, fried snacks, I know where to go.

It's just ok... Far saltier than any Chinese I have ever had in the past.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
